Dos jesuitas escolares empiezan su experiencia misionera en Cuba
Con alegría la Provincia del Caribe recibió en Cuba a Sebastián Salamanca SJ (MEX) y Carlos Lovera SJ (BOL), dos jóvenes jesuitas que llegan para conocer de cerca la misión de la Provincia Caribe en la isla.
Sebastián y Carlos son estudiantes de teología en la Pontificia Universidad Javeriana de Bogotá. Su presencia responde a un acuerdo entre la Delegación de Formación de la Conferencia de Provinciales Jesuitas de América Latina y el Caribe (CPAL) y la Provincia Caribe, mediante el cual escolares en formación teológica realizan experiencias de conocimiento e inserción en las misiones de la Compañía de Jesús en Cuba.
Ambos llegan con el corazón abierto, dispuestos a conocer nuestra realidad y a acoger tanto los retos como las oportunidades que ofrece esta tierra. Su viaje de llegada ya les dio una primera lección de paciencia y confianza en la Providencia: su vuelo sufrió un retraso considerable, manteniéndolos en espera desde las 3:00 am hasta las 12:00 am en la ruta Bogotá-Panamá-Cuba.
A pesar del cansancio del viaje, trajeron consigo no solo una pequeña maleta con sus pertenencias personales, sino varias maletas repletas de ayudas y medicamentos para apoyar la misión. También empacaron repelentes para enfrentar la actual epidemia de aerovirosis que afecta al país. Tendrán que luchar contra los mosquitos para mantenerse en pie, pero están decididos a abrir el corazón para dejarse envolver por la calidez humana que caracteriza al pueblo cubano y a nuestra misión.
Durante todo el mes de diciembre, Sebastián y Carlos convivirán en Santiago de Cuba junto a Pedro Rivera, SJ, quien les acompañará en esta experiencia de inmersión en la vida y misión de la Provincia Caribe.

WELCOME TO TWO JESUIT SCHOLASTICS WHO ARE BEGINNING THEIR MISSIONARY EXPERIENCE IN CUBA DURING THE MONTH OF DECEMBER
We are pleased to welcome Sebastián Salamanca SJ (MEX) and Carlos Lovera SJ (BOL) to Cuba, two young Jesuits who are arriving to learn more about the mission of the Caribbean Province on the island.
Sebastián and Carlos are theology students at the Pontifical Xavierian University in Bogotá. Their presence is the result of an agreement between the Formation Delegation of the Conference of Jesuit Provincials of Latin America and the Caribbean (CPAL) and the Caribbean Province, whereby scholastics in theological formation gain knowledge and experience of the missions of the Society of Jesus in Cuba.
Both arrive with open hearts, ready to learn about our reality and to embrace both the challenges and opportunities that this land offers. Their journey here already taught them a first lesson in patience and trust in Providence: their flight was considerably delayed, keeping them waiting from 3:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m. on the Bogotá-Panama Cuba route.
Despite the fatigue of the journey, they brought with them not only a small suitcase with their personal belongings, but also several suitcases full of aid and medicines to support the mission. They also packed repellents to combat the current epidemic of aeroviruses affecting the country. They will have to fight mosquitoes to stay on their feet, but they are determined to open their hearts to the human warmth that characterizes the Cuban people and our mission.
Throughout the month of December, Sebastián and Carlos will live in Santiago de Cuba with Pedro Rivera, SJ, who will accompany them in this immersion experience in the life and mission of the Caribbean Province.
